Background
T was taught to play the tabla by his grandfather, a professor in Indian
Classical music, from when he was only two years old.
He practised regularly for six hours a day.
At only seven years old T won an award at a competition in Coventry
for being the best tabla player under 16 from all over the UK.
From the age of twelve T gained experience playing the Dhol live at
family parties and functions.
When he met Phil Korbell, a radio trainer, T was introduced to a fusion
band called ‘Sambangra’.
‘Sanbangra’ are a group of musicians who fuse Samba and
Bhangra music.
He played with Sambangra for 3 years performing live on stage at events
including:
St Patricks Day 2000, Dublin, Ireland
New Years Eve Street Party 2000/01, Pompadou Centre, Paris, France
Band on the Wall, Swan Street, Manchester City Centre
And at The Lowry Centre, Old Trafford Unity Festival, and other charitable
events
Then when he met DJ Sanj together they formed DesiFusion DJ’s.
DesiFusion
After a string of successful private functions DesiFusion started working
with club night promoters ApnaBeat and WB Promotions. This led to DesiFusion
becoming the resident DJ and Dholi at ‘Seduction’, a Bhangra
/ RnB night at Satan’s Hollow, Princess Street, Manchester City
Center.
As well as this weekly night DesiFusion have performed at popular club
events such as Rock ‘n’ Dhol and the Daytimer. At these
events they have played alongside artists such as RDB, Rishi Rich, Panjabi
MC, Apache Indian, Kasanova, and MC Gorilla Chilla.
